Sheryl,

True...true...

AS an English teacher I ALWAYS struggled with the idea of "authentic" audience and purpose for student writing. Because, the audience used to be me! Here's an idea, when a student is working on a research topic, DON"T turn papers in...post them to his or her own blog. Think there will be some feedback? Also, it's amazing to see how much care kids spend on research and writing when they know "others" will be reading. And they will read.

Your other point brings up a rallying cry I've had for years...now more than ever, we MUST teach structured cooperative learning skills...both in person and especially in cyberspace. Building both individual accountablity and positive interdependence are the cornerstones of flatttening the world and building community across town and around the world.

This is interesting and important work, Sheryl. Thought you might like to see this post, since I noticed Laura's link on you wiki. This is how she is forwarding her efforts, and it is leading to shifts in PD approaches here as well as not-for-profit practices. Interested in learning more about how you will make use of Marzano's work and how assessment processes fit in. Piloting some different things in WNY. All very exciting!

Angela,

Listen to archive if you want to know how I use Marzano's work. Shared a full day workshop on this in WNY with EETT work.

Although we are not unique, I love the fact our English teachers are using Google Docs for collaboration with each other. The best thing of all though is that our students are peer editing using it. Very engaging!
