Universal Design Learning

"Fair doesn't mean giving everyone the same;fair means giving everyone what they need." -Rick Lavoie

Ud_014aThis is how Karen Janowski began her presentation during the last Virtual Monday session for my students. Her topic was UDL- Universal Design Learning or how to teach all children regardless of their exceptionalities.

I learned so much during her presentation (archive available here). For example, check out Mel Levine's Work - Misunderstood Minds, which features the opportunity to simulate a learning style difference- you can see first hand the 2c_1frustration kids face when we do not differentiate instruction. Two other great UDL sites she shared were CAST's main page and the TES page., both worth checking out.

On her blog Karen offers a UDL Toolkit which kept us oooing and ahhhing with each click. If you would like to see more of the resources she shared  and learn about the guiding principles for UDL then check out her page on the class wiki.

I would like to thank Karen for the perfect session to end out the semester. You were fantastic.
