My daughter Grace posted this on her Facebook page today-
I’m off to DC. To sleep in a box. Yes. I am going to DC to sleep in a
cardboard box. Myself along with nearly 66,000 other Americans are
choosing to become displaced persons for one night. To leave our homes
for one night to show the world that we are laying down to stand up for
voices who have none. Northern Uganda needs our attention! Yay! Check
out: http://www.invisiblechildren.com for more
information in joining the fight. or http://www.invisiblechildren.com/displaceme
for more information about the refugee camp campaign.
“By traveling to one of our 15 camps and gathering together, the strength of our size will make a visible statement to our government and media that the citizens of the U.S. demand action in ending the war in Northern Uganda, in order to send the Acholi people suffering in the camps and the abducted children back home. The point is to travel; the point is to become displaced yourself”
This is one thing about this generation of kids that really brings me hope: Their activism.
As we reform education we need to think of ways to utilize the Web 2.0 tools to promote educational uses of activism in our classrooms. This not only plays to the passionate interests of our students, but it allows us to leave the world better than we found it.
Cool post! Bet they will be on the news!!
