Just wanted to let all of you know that I have been asked to contribute to Teacher 2.0 - a new blog on "How the Internet can be used to create learning communities that advance professional development and improve classroom instruction." The blog is promoted by David Deschryver and Denis Doyle of SchoolNet, with an impressive list of contributors. They invited Barnett Berry to participate and he asked me to be a co-contributor with him. I am quite humbled. There is one other educator on the list of contributors- Dana Huff.
I think this blog is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to engage policy makers and educational reformers around a topic of which we are all very passionate. I hope you will visit the blog often and engage in the conversations and ideas through your comments. Plus, I could use your moral support! Here is my first co-post.

In addition, School Net is also hosting a conference: EduStat Summit 2007
Hi Sheryl,
Congratulations on the posting and thanks for an enjoyable read.
I think that our major barrier to implementing 21st century learning in our schools is not the teachers or the students, but the parents.
I know for my part, that our parents really do EXPECT school to be like they were when they went to school, and are very critical of many of the changes we are trying to bring about.
Perhaps upskilling programmes need to start there and educate the parents.

That is such a valid point. I hope you will consider making it over on the policy blog in response to my comment. I would love to get some conversation going over there where folks in a position to bring about reform on a large scale are listening.
Thanks so much for commenting.
